Sassy Science Series Programs will be held on the second Tuesday of each month and will feature a different Lee University professor presenting on a scientific topic. There is a 40 minute program with a questions and answer session following the program. It is a lively and fun time to listen in and get involved in the discussion. Feel free to bring your lunch as you enjoy the program. This group will meet in the Flex Space upstairs. “Disaster MythBusters: What Movies, Headlines and Popular Culture Get Wrong About Crisis.” In his talk, Fast will discuss crisis events and misconceptions portrayed in movies and news coverage. He will also challenge common assumptions about panic, helping behavior, and what communities need in a crisis. Fast joined the Lee faculty as an assistant professor of science in emergency management in 2023. His teaching focuses on emergency management, disaster response, humanitarian logistics, and interdisciplinary disaster preparedness. He has helped facilitate large-scale simulations and applied learning experiences designed to prepare students for real-world crisis environments.
